Does anyone know what I can cook for my boyfriend?

Question by elliottz: Does anyone know what I can cook for my boyfriend?
It’s my boyfriend’s 18th coming up and I wanted to cook him a special meal, just the two of us so we can spend some proper time together before I go to uni and for his birthday. He’s a very picky eater and I have no idea wot to cook him. Please help!!! And how should I decorate the table to make it look nice?
I said he was picky… he doesn’t like mash potato (I mean who doesn’t like mash! But thats another story). I’ll have a whole day, and was wanting to do a three course meal. I’m a pretty good cook, I was going to do homemade profiteroles for dessert. I can follow recipes and adapt them with ease. So I can do quite a bit. As he is picky however it’s best to go simple-ish but I want to impress him as it’ll be the first proper meal that I cook for him.

Q&A: did anyone have a normal wedding? not out of a magazine? £6500 budget?

Question by Girlygiggles2205: did anyone have a normal wedding? not out of a magazine? £6500 budget?
We have our wedding planned for June 1st this year, everything is booked, and we’re on a budget. £6500 for the whole day. apart from a honeymoon. We are having a church wedding, then onto a community centre, its a hiring out hall, but it comes with all the tables and chairs, a bar, space for dancefloor, as well as a small fenced garden, (they have new garden furniture to put here) anyway now im just waiting on things to get a little closer and over thinking things (i think)
When we orignally started planning we had £4000 for the whole day but now my parents have offered us money too so that made things easier. We’ve spent the money in good places, mostly on the food, canapes, 4 course meal, then evening buffet, but saved on things like putting wine on the table rather than buying it with caterers etc.

I keep hearing of wedding packages at hotels “£4000 for the whole day” etc and at the time we could afford that (not that i think £2500 would leave enough for everything else!”) but now im wondering will people think our wedding isnt as nice, everyone seems to have hotel weddings these days, but i personally think there’s nothing wrong with the old days of the church then the pub! (although we have made it a little more sophisticated than that!) everytime i look up things, flower ideas, hair ideas, decoration ideas i find magazine weddings, picture perfect hotels, yeah nice but we dont have that sort of money to waste on one day?

Im vvery crafty so have made all our stationary (had lots of good feedback from them too!) as well as table plan, things like a card box i bought plain, added a handmade label and some ribbon/diamantes and it looks really good, for a fraction of the price.

anyone else done it? any pics?
im not unhappy with my reception hall, the day before we will be decorating the hall (we have voile panels for the entrance room etc) lots of bows, table decs etc but i cant wait! im that sort of person who enjoys that and cant think of anything worse than sitting in some salon while someone else does it!!! i will be doing as much as i can, the morning of the wedding will be my hair/makeup time!

We had a very simple wedding, I think the total cost was under $ 2000. The ceremony was in a private garden at a local park, the reception was in the log lodge building at the park. I made our invitations, a friend did our flowers & centerpieces. The centerpieces were mason jars ties with a ribbon and had flowers that matched my boquet.
I actually got my dress off eBay, along with my crystal headband. Those were huge money savers.
My sisters and a friend did our reception food. We had an afternoon wedding, so more finger sandwiches, fruit & veggies instead of a full dinner.
I don’t have access to any photos on my phone.

Can anyone help me with my tomatoes?

Question by syllylou77: Can anyone help me with my tomatoes?
My tomatoes are plentiful but for some reason they won’t turn red on the vine. I had the same problem last year but I hardly had any. If I pick them & leave them in the sun they’re delicious & juicy. I know they’re in a good spot and I’m using loamy soil. So I can’t figure out what the problem is. Before the last 2 yrs. they were wonderful and I’m tired of waiting for them to turn in the sun. Can anyone help me here?
I gave the area a rest a couple of yrs. ago & added compost, sand, soil & clay to make it loamy. Last yr. like previous years I let it naturally decompose. I’ve cut off sections & they grow back as fast as I can cut them. They stay almost 5 ft. tall & blooms keep popping up like crazy. But they are delicious when they do turn red and are even juicy when I make fried green tomatoes. So I know it’s not the water.

I haven’t been to the store yet but I’ll try the banana idea.

It’sso weird because in the 5 or 6 yrs. before I allowed the area to rest they grew the same way but were covered my July with large, juicy red ones. Everyone told me last yr. was a bad yr. so I didn’t think anything more about it. But everyone’s this yr. are great.

May 10th is the planting date here. The weather was extremely hotter than usual (85-90) and very humid. But the humidity is down the last week & the nights more like autumn. I usually have tomatoes until the end of Oct.

Question by Red: Does anyone know any hidden gems in London?
I’ve just moved to London for university and, having visited a million times as a child, I’ve already seen all the shopping and touristy areas, but are there any little hidden places; restaurants, clothes/ music shops, parks, buildings that are loved by the locals… Those places that you love because you see them everyday, but no one else knows about them and they are just invaluable and fantastic? I want to explore, but I just don’t know where to start!

Q&A: Can anyone explain how bodybuilders and fitness models get rid of water retention in the last few days?

Question by Qw: Can anyone explain how bodybuilders and fitness models get rid of water retention in the last few days?
I’ve heard that a few days before competitions or photo shot, apart cardio, they usually refrain from carbs, salt and even water in order to get rid of water retention. Apparently somebody use white wine the night before and in the morning in order to get more dehydrated!
Is it true?
I know pro bodybuilders take a lot of drugs and diuretic but my question is more about their diet.

go in a steam room for an hour, where one of those silver boiler suits and go on a treadmill or step climber for an hour, both of them will make you dehydrate and lose water, soon as you drink water you’ll put on the water again though

Answer by Irina C
1 cup chopped bacon
1 pound of boneless pork, cut into small cubes
3 cloves of garlic, minced
3 onions, quartered
1/2 pound mushrooms, quartered
2 cups beef stock
2 Tablespoons sugar
2 bay leaves
2 cups sauerkraut, rinsed under cold water and drained
3 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into chunks
2 cups canned tomatoes, with juice, cut into pieces
1 cup diced cooked ham
1 and 1/2 cups Polish sausage, cut into small chunks
salt and pepper to taste
Garnish: sour cream, served on the side

Fry the bacon in a Dutch oven, to render the fat, then toss in the pork chunks, garlic, onions, and mushrooms. Saute until the meat is browned–about 5 minutes.

Pour in the stock, tomatoes with their juice, sugar, bay leaves, sauerkraut, and apples, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for about 2 hours. Stir in the ham and sausage, then cover and cook on medium-low heat for about 30 more minutes.

When ready to serve, remove bay leaves and taste for seasoning. Ladle into bowls and serve with boiled potatoes, a bowl of sour cream, and thick, crusty bread.

Title: POLISH BIGOS (SAUERKRAUT STEW)
Categories: Stews
Yield: 16 servings

4 lb Sauerkraut
1 lb Beef cubes
1 lb Smoked butt
1 lb Spareribs
1/4 lb Bacon
1 cn Tomatoes (large)
2 c Water
4 lb Cabbage head
1 lb Loin pork chops
1 lb Smoked kielbasa
1/2 c Onions (chopped)
1 oz Mushrooms (dried)
2 tb Flour

Brown the beef, pork and spareribs in a large heavey
pot. Put the browned meats and the smoked butt with 1
cup of water into a separate, covered pan and simmer
until tender, the pork chops about 1/2 hour, the butt
about 1 hour, beef 1 1/2 to 2 hours and spareribs 2
hours. Pour off all the fat from the first pot and put
in the sauerkraut and one cup of water. Chop the
cabbage fine and add to sauerkraut. Cover and cook
until cabbage is tender, about 30 minutes. Remove lid
and keep pot on a very low simmer.
In a third pan, fry bacon until crisp, then crumble
into sauerkraut mixture. Remove most of the bacon fat
and fry onions and flour until they just brown. Mix
into sauerkraut mixture. Remove the meats from the
second pan as they become tender. Cut away fat and
bone and cut into small pieces. Add to sauerkraut
mixture. Skim the fat off the meat juices and add to
sauerkraut mixture. Take off skin from kielbasa and
cut into slices. Add to sauerkraut mixture with the
tomatoes. Salt, pepper to taste. Bring to a boil,
simmer 5 minutes and serve hot.
